Walgreens Joins How2Recycle

CHARLOTTESVILLE, VA, March 23, 2017 — Walgreens is the newest member of the How2Recycle program, joining 60 other participating companies and retailers as industry leaders in clear recycling communications. As part of its participation, the How2Recycle label will soon be included on select Walgreens-branded products in its stores across the U.S.

The How2Recycle label simplifies recycling by letting consumers know if a package is Widely Recycled, if a consumer must Check Locally, or if a package is Not Yet Recycled. Additionally, the label instructs the consumer when a package can be recycled via Store Drop-off, which is available at select locations for certain types of packaging. The labels can be applied to any type of packaging, and are the first-of-their-kind for offering concise and simplified information all in one small label.

“We’re proud to welcome Walgreens to the How2Recycle program, which demonstrates exceptional leadership in communicating recyclability,” says Kelly Cramer, Senior Manager at Sustainable Packaging Coalition, who leads the How2Recycle program. “Since private label packaging spans across an entire store experience, having the How2Recycle label will help ease consumer confusion in recycling across a variety of packaging types. We’re thankful for  Walgreens support and look forward to it helping to accelerate our recycling efforts across the U.S.”
